How do I setup a custom domain on Blogger with GoDaddy?

By enabling people and organizations to communicate with a global audience, blogging has emerged as a key component of internet communication.

A user-friendly interface is provided by Blogger, a well-known blogging platform owned by Google, for setting up and maintaining blogs.

Despite the fact that Blogger offers users a free domain name (such as yourblogname.blogspot.com), many bloggers prefer to add a more unique touch by utilizing a custom domain name.

Using GoDaddy, a well-known domain registrar and web hosting company, we will walk you through the process of setting up a custom domain on Blogger in this post.

Understand the Benefits of a Custom Domain:

Before we dive into the technicalities, let's understand the advantages of having a custom domain for your Blogger blog:

  • Professionalism: A custom domain lends a professional touch to your blog, making it more credible and trustworthy in the eyes of your readers.
  • Branding: It helps establish a strong brand identity and recognition as your domain will reflect your blog's name or niche.
  • SEO Advantage: Having a custom domain can positively impact your search engine rankings, improving your blog's visibility in search results.
  • Portability: Owning your domain allows you to move your blog to a different platform without changing the URL, offering more flexibility.

Purchase a Domain from GoDaddy:

To get started, you need to register a custom domain with GoDaddy. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Visit GoDaddy's website and search for your desired domain name. Select an appropriate domain extension (e.g., .com, .net, .org) and proceed to the checkout.

Step 2: Create a GoDaddy account or log in if you already have one. Complete the purchase by providing the necessary payment information.

Step 3: Once the domain is successfully registered, you'll receive a confirmation email from GoDaddy.

Configure DNS Settings on GoDaddy:

After purchasing the domain, you need to configure the Domain Name System (DNS) settings to connect it with your Blogger blog. Here's how:

Step 1: Log in to your GoDaddy account and navigate to the "My Products" section.

Step 2: Find the domain you purchased and click on the "DNS" button to access the DNS Management page.

Step 3: Look for the "A Records" section and edit the "@" record to point to Blogger's IP addresses: 216.239.32.21, 216.239.34.21, 216.239.36.21, and 216.239.38.21.

Step 4: Create four new "CNAME Records" for your domain as follows:

www - ghs.google.com
<YOUR-BLOG-NAME> - gv-<RANDOM-STRINGS>.domainverify.googlehosted.com
<YOUR-BLOG-NAME> - ghs.google.com
<YOUR-BLOG-NAME> - gv-<RANDOM-STRINGS>.domainverify.googlehosted.com
Note: Replace <YOUR-BLOG-NAME> with your actual Blogger blog name and <RANDOM-STRINGS> with unique alphanumeric characters.

Step 5: Save the changes.

Configure Blogger Settings:

With the DNS settings in place, it's time to configure your Blogger settings to use the custom domain:

Step 1: Sign in to your Blogger account and select the blog you want to connect with the custom domain.

Step 2: On the left-hand menu, click on "Settings" and then "Basic."

Step 3: Under the "Publishing" section, click on the "+ Set up a third-party URL for your blog" link.

Step 4: Enter your custom domain (e.g., www.yourblogname.com) in the pop-up window and click "Save."

Step 5: You'll see two CNAME records with details to add in your DNS settings. However, since you've already set up the CNAME records on GoDaddy, you can ignore this step.

Step 6: Tick the "Redirect yourdomain.com to www.yourdomain.com" checkbox (replace "yourdomain.com" with your actual domain).

Step 7: Click "Save."

Finalize the Setup:

You must wait for the DNS changes to propagate after adjusting GoDaddy and Blogger settings. Usually, this process moves along much more quickly, but it could take up to 48 hours.

Your custom domain name will be used to access your Blogger blog once DNS propagation has finished. Visitors will be able to access your blog using the new domain, and GoDaddy's custom domain setup for Blogger will be successful!

The professionalism, branding, and search engine exposure of your site can all be greatly improved by setting up a custom domain on Blogger using GoDaddy.

You can create a distinctive online identity that connects with your audience and builds a solid online presence by doing the steps indicated in this tutorial. Have fun writing!
