What are the 3 types of Internet?

Our daily lives now effortlessly include the Internet. It is a vast network of devices, computers, and servers linked together to exchange information.

The three main divisions of the Internet as it exists now are the surface web, the deep web, and the dark web. In this post, we'll discuss these three types of the Internet and how they differ from one another.

The Surface Web

Search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo can be used to access the surface web, a section of the Internet. It includes webpages that are search engine indexed and available to everyone with an internet connection.

Although it only makes up 4% of the internet overall, the surface web is the most widely used type of internet that individuals use on a regular basis.

The surface web contains the vast majority of websites, social media platforms, e-commerce sites, and blogs. In addition, it is where most of the regular stuff we consume comes from.

Users' security and privacy are protected by the laws, policies, and moral standards that control this type of internet.

The Deep Web

The portion of the internet that is not indexed by search engines is known as the deep web. The deep web is thought to be 400–500 times bigger than the surface web.

Because the material is not indexed or catalogued, this type of internet cannot be found using conventional search engines.

Websites and data that are shielded by firewalls, secret networks, and password-protected sites are included in the deep web.

Additionally, it is where the majority of the sensitive material on the internet is kept, including documents from the government, financial information, and medical records.

The Dark Web

The dark web, a portion of the deep web, is the most notorious part of the internet. It needs specific configurations and can only be accessed using sophisticated software like Tor.

On the dark web, illegal activities like the trafficking of drugs, the selling of firearms, and human trafficking take place. It acts as a hub for unlawful conduct since it provides a platform where people can remain anonymous and untraceable.

There are no laws or regulations governing the dark web, which is commonly associated with crimes.

Despite being a very small fraction of the entire internet, it has received significant media coverage due to its connections to illegal behaviour.

The three primary types of the Internet, a large network, are the surface web, the deep web, and the black web. On the surface web, you can find the bulk of websites, social media platforms, and blogs.

The deep web, which is inaccessible to search engines, contains sensitive data. The "dark web," is a section of the deep web that can only be accessed with specialised software and is believed to be utilised for unlawful activity.

Understanding the distinctions between these three types of the Internet is essential for safe and responsible online behaviour.
